As with every profession, the environmental world is changing in response to advances in technology. Environmental consultants & scientists in the field can now use their smart phones to take pictures of sample locations, use the GPS locater (in a pinch), email their supervisor pictures of site conditions, log soil conditions in a mobile soil boring program, and the list goes on and on. Besides the basic functions of a smart phone, there are numerous applications, or apps, that are starting to appear on the market. Some of the current environmental focused apps will give you access to USDA soil survey data, and there are even laboratory apps for sample processing....more
