As with every profession, the environmental world is changing in response to advances in technology. Environmental consultants & scientists in the field can now use their smart phones to take pictures of sample locations, use the GPS locater (in a pinch), email their supervisor pictures of site conditions, log soil conditions in a mobile soil boring program, and the list goes on and on. Besides the basic functions of a smart phone, there are numerous applications, or apps, that are starting to appear on the market.
